Obituary

Clementine Ann (Clemmy) Maksimowicz, 91, of Wilmington, DE passed away on June 23, 2017 of natural causes at Foulk Manor North Nursing Home in Wilmington, DE. Clementine was born January 1, 1926 in Shenandoah, PA, one of eight children of Adolph and Anna Sauk. Clementine attended school in Shenandoah, PA and Villanova School of Nursing. Clementine married Edward Maksimowicz of Chester, PA in August 1948 and had eight children. Once married, the couple lived for five years in Eddystone, PA, 8 years in Ridley Township, PA, and over 30 years in Claymont, DE. Attending Catholic school and church, doing well academically, and working hard were values that Edward and Clementine instilled in their children. The familiar family quote was"money does not grow on trees, so go out there and work and earn it." The boy's, Andrea and Joan had a paper route that each inherited when they were 10. Even though Clementine never learned to swim, she took all the children with dad to the Ridley Township and Radnor Green swim clubs every summer, every day, and attended every swim meet possible for all the children.
In addition to the busy time of raising eight children, Clementine attended nursing school, taught at St. Hedwig's, Chester, PA for a few years, was a nurse for elderly DuPont family members in Wilmington, DE for over 20 years, and had a daycare business at her home in Claymont, DE for over 20 years. Clementine could be counted on to help with her grandchildren too. Clementine stayed close to her siblings and mother in spite of the move to Delaware. Her children's fondest memories were of Mom's famous chrusciki that she cooked for the holidays and their visit to Grandmother Saukevery Saturday so that the children could play at the park with their cousins, while Clementine and her sisters caught up on family news while helping her mother clean the house, wash clothes and windows, and tend the flower gardens. Clementine's survivors include her eight children, Marie Maks, Paulette Dugandzic (Joseph), Michael (Barbie), Joseph, Edward, Robert, Andrea Dineen (Francis), and Joan, 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Clementine was pre-deceased by her husband, Edward (December 1985) her brothers, Paul Leon, Tony, and Edward Sauk, and sisters Leona Simmons and Terri Klepacki.
