Dolores Hunchak , age 82, of Drexel Hill, PA, on November 7, 2019
Dolores was born on March 20, 1937, the only child of Paul and Mary Klosuk. Her childhood was filled with days of watching her father work at his shoemaking shop, helping her mother prepare meals, and visiting with her "younger" cousin, Marie. Following her graduation from Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1955, Dolores attended classes to become an x-ray technician. Tragedy came early when her father died at home in 1956.
Dolores married the love of her life, Boris, on May 18, 1958, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Philadelphia. They moved to Drexel Hill in Delaware County where they raised their three children—Kathie, Paul, and Nick. Tragedy came again when her mother died in 1962. Like many of her generation, Dolores was a stay-at-home mom, participating in her childrens' "growing up" through the PTA, scouting programs,
and attending numerous concerts, musicals, and sporting events. She developed a love of cooking, taught herself the skills of sewing, and became an avid reader of mystery novels—all of which became loves of her children.
Following his retirement from General Motors in 1996, Dolores and Boris volunteered many hours toward the maintenance of their beloved St. Nicholas Church. Together they traveled to Walt Disney World, Williamsburg, Virginia, Sitka, Alaska, and took several river cruises in Russia. Dolores renewed her role of caregiver by spending time with her 6 grandchildren, teaching them all the art of Pascha bread making, watching them while their parents worked, sharing Rita's water ice while watching cooking shows, and attending anew their numerous concerts, musicals, and sporting events.
When Boris lost his ability to walk, possibly from Parkinson's Disease, Dolores took on for the final time the role of caregiver, caring for him by herself in their Drexel Hill home. Eventually, his care became too advanced and in 2012 she moved him into Harlee Manor in Springfield, Pa. Dolores became a member of St. Herman's Orthodox Church in Glen Mills, PA, and once again became involved in the church family by attending services and assisting with the parish pierogi making. She continued to be involved in family activities and attended her granddaughter Zoe's High School graduation in 2018. Sadly, Dolores' progressing dementia took her ability to live independently. In January 2019 Dolores and Boris moved to Sunrise Senior Living in Newtown Square, Pa., where they once again could be together for meals, listening to music, and engaging in their favorite activity, holding hands.
Dolores fell asleep in the Lord on November 7, 2019. She is survived by her children: Kathryn Hunchak-Kariouk (John D. Kariouk), Paul B. Hunchak (Elena Andrusezko), and Nicholas A. Hunchak (Krissy Fraelich); and grandchildren Valentina, Oleg, Katya, Zoe, Becca, and Tristan. She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Boris, and her parents Paul and Mary (nee Hudanycz) Klosuk.
